Product Listing Ad (PLA)

A Product Listing Ad (PLA) is a shopping ad that shows a product's image, title, and price directly in search results, generated automatically from your product feed rather than from written ad copy.

PLAs are the visual product ads you see at the top of Google search and across the Shopping tab. Unlike text ads, you do not write headlines for them; the channel builds each ad from the data in your feed, choosing which products to show for which searches based on the attributes you provide.

They matter because the feed, not a copywriter, controls how they look and where they appear. Your title, image, price, and product type effectively are the ad. Better feed data means more relevant matches, more appealing ads, and a higher return; weak or missing data means your products show less or not at all.

In practice, the term PLA is the older name for what Google now calls Shopping ads, and the underlying mechanic is the same: a feed in, automatically generated product ads out. The quality bar lives entirely in your feed.

Because the feed is the lever, MartechFlow focuses on making that feed as clean and complete as possible: accurate titles, valid identifiers, correct categories, and current prices, so the ads the channel builds from it perform.

Manage all of this automatically with MartechFlow. 18 terms, one simple tool.
